Wonder Woman a Continuation of Another Movie
Wonder Woman 3 Update Shared By Gal Gadot
In a recent interview, Wonder Woman and Sleeping Beauty star Gal Gadot recently shared a brief update on the production of Wonder Woman 3.
Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot shares an update on Wonder Woman 3 . Gadot's hero first debuted in the DCEU in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She followed that appearance in 2017 with the Patty Jenkins-directed solo film Wonder Woman which was widely praised and grossed over $820 million worldwide. Later in the year, Gadot returned to the role in the much maligned Justice League (2017) team-up film. The actor's last outing as Wonder Woman came in 2020 with Wonder Woman 1984, a film which portrays the character in the mid-1980s, living a double-life in Washington D.C. The film earned mixed reviews and did not fare well in the pandemic-restricted box office grossing $166 million on its $200 million budget.
Although rumored and discussed well before, Wonder Woman 3 was officially announced in 2020 just days after Wonder Woman 1984 was released. Jenkins has previously stated that she originally had clear plans for where she wanted the third film to go, but the director later paused writing during the pandemic to absorb the newer state of the world, possibly impacting the direction of Wonder Woman 3's plot. Lynda Carter, the actress who played Wonder Woman in the original 1970s television series has also been confirmed to return to franchise as Asteria after appearing briefly at the end of Wonder Woman 1984.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Gadot shared an update on the upcoming DCEU film Wonder Woman 3. When the topic of the soon-to-be trilogy of Wonder Woman films was brought up, Jenkins expressed excitement stating that she could not wait for the release of the next film. Gadot jumped in and shared a few extra details on where they were with the story. Read what the star said below.
"We're talking! We're actually in the mix of working on the script and getting the third one made, so it's all wheels are working and turning and I'm super, super excited for the fans to come and watch Wonder Woman 3 once it's made."
Unfortunately specifics of the film are still under wraps, with only Gadot and Carter officially announced as returning to the franchise. Chris Pine played a central role in both Wonder Woman and its sequel as the fighter pilot Steve Trevor, but when previously asked about a potential return, the actor did not appear too confident that he will reprise his role. This would make sense as his character died in the first film and Trevor's return in the second was one of the plot points critics identified as a negative.
It is promising news that both the director and star of Wonder Woman are still confidently speaking about the upcoming sequel. Warner Bros. has proven that they are not afraid of pulling the plug of planned films, actors, and whole franchises. Following the studio's major merger with Discovery, the company is looking to overhaul its DC properties with a desire to focus on prominent supporting characters such as Black Adam, Harley Quinn, and the Joker. Although Wonder Woman 1984 didn't perform as strongly as its predecessor, it appears that Warner Bros. still has faith in the franchise, with reportedly Wonder Woman 4 and an Amazon spinoff in the works as well. With no official release date announced, fans can probably expect Wonder Woman 3 in theaters by 2023 or 2024.
